In the last century it was planned to make Uyuni a great railroad and commercial city, but this was a plan that met with no success. However, the city layout still features excessively wide streets. Today the city is dedicated especially to the mining of salt and to providing services for tourists visiting the Salar of Uyuni, Laguna Colorada, Laguna Verde, etc. Services such as food and accommodation are satisfactory for the basic needs of visitors.

CLIMATE
Cold with an annual average temperature of 7° C. Rain mostly in the months of December - March.
